Upcoming Chapter Events:
Blue Ridge VCOA Chapter Fall Event
Friday October 3, 2024
Friday, October 3rd event cancelled.
The recent storm has Kitty Hawk awash with water, sand and storm debris.
NC-12 is sand filled, DOT crews are clearing the roads. Portions of NC 12 remain closed.
It is just not a good time to visit the Outer Banks.
They’ll need a few weeks to recover.

Wright Brothers Memorial National Park
Kitty Hawk, NC – Outer Banks
Muster between 12 and 1 pm in the parking lot on the east side of the
memorial. [right side of image below]

Upon entering the Park, entrance fees apply, take Loop Road past the private
airport, circle around the monument to the parking area. If you have one, don’t forget your National Parks Senior (Annual or Lifetime) Pass to get into Kitty Hawk National Monument.
Interagency Senior Annual and Senior Lifetime Passes (U.S.)
I shall monitor FRS channel 7, use it to communicate with me upon entering
the park. Wear suitable foot ware to climb the dune to the monument and hike
to the visitor center. (0.5 mile)
Bring a picnic lunch and beverages; picnic tables are nearby along with a
playground, take the grandkids out of school for an educational field trip. They
can write an essay. An English teacher will be present to help organize their
essay. Paper, pencil and cursive style sheets will be provided. 😉
I shall arrive Thursday, October 2, at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, Kitty Hawk.
Expect sunny skies with daytime mid 70s°F and 60s°F in the evening. Dinner
will be at a seafood restaurant like, Dirty Dick’s Crab House.
The first weekend in October has fewer visitors to the National Park and the
OTB in general, so traffic and accommodations will be plentiful. It’s a
wonderful time to stroll the morning or afternoon beach.

Saturday is an opportunity to visit the National Seashore with a mandatory
stop in Rodanthe for an iced coffee and on to the Hattaras Island Lighthouse.
Seek a refreshing beverage at Pop’s Raw Bar and Grill. It’s a family place
populated by longtime residents. Park in back, use the rear entrance. It’s a
dive with great food at reasonable cost.
See you there.
